Master’s in Voice

Master’s in Voice

Italia Conti’s master’s in voice course is full- or part-time, leading to a post-grad qualification. In this course, students will focus either on teaching or coaching, equipping them to be creative and innovative voice teachers and coaches.

This course is designed for students who already have an understanding of acting and performance through their own training or professional experience.

The course particularly distinguishes between teaching and coaching, teaching focuses on providing a journey of vocal development and coaching focuses on guiding an actor through vocal challenges specific to medium/script needs or other voice users.

At the end of the course, attendees will be able to teach voice effectively in actor training settings. Further graduates of the MFA will be able to coach to a professional standard for theatre, film, TV and Audio.

This Course is Perfect For:

What This Course Covers

Our MA in Teaching and Coaching and the Speaking Voice covers both the art and science of voice. Key areas include:

  • Understanding the voice: Such as how it works, anatomy, breathing and the mechanics of sound production. This base foundation will help you teach/instruct others effectively.
  • Developing vocal techniques: Such as study techniques for improving tone, projection and articulation as well as distinctions between voice in acting and voice in public speaking.
  • Vocal health: Understanding how to keep the voice healthy and how to avoid strain/damage. This is particularly important for coaching/teaching singers who need to protect and preserve their voice for long-term care.
  • Teaching methods: Planning lessons, coaching individuals and leading group sessions. You’ll also learn to assess students and provide feedback to help them progress.
  • Research and theory: You’ll explore the latest theories in voice training, helping guide your teaching style.

Throughout the course, you will be encouraged to reflect and assess your own practice, helping you develop your coaching/teaching skills, so you can offer the best instruction to your own students.
